Weebly Releases Official Android App, Makes Mobile Blogging Even Easier

iconBlogging is a cruel mix of trying to come up with interesting content and struggling with the software to make a good site. For people who don't want to partake in epic battles against WordPress but need a little more control than Tumblr has to offer, Weebly provides a simple drag-and-drop interface and professional templates to quickly build a great looking platform on which to share your thoughts. While not as popular as the aforementioned WordPress (Alexa #21) and Tumblr (Alexa #32), Weebly (Alexa #301 and Google PageRank of 8) claims to have over 12 million users and is a force to be reckoned with.
Unfortunately, users have had to sign into the website through a web browser to do everything, until now. A few days ago, Weebly launched its official Android app, which brings basic site management, posting capabilities, visitor statistics, and push notifications for comments and form entries.

Android 4.3 Jelly Bean: Google Could Announce this Very Version At Google I/O 2013

Google will surely announce the next version to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean at Google I/O 2013. Historically, it was seen that Google I/O proved to be a perfect platform to announce either new hardware or standalone software releases. Such was the case last year when Google announced Android 4.2 Jelly Bean along with Nexus 7 at Google I/O 2012. Now the whole world is waiting to see Android 5.0 (Key Lime Pie) to be announced officially at Google I/O 2013.
Until now, it was believed that Google is almost ready to announce Key Lime Pie along with Motorola X, the Nexus 5, and lastly an improvised version of Nexus 7. With the Motorola X still in a prototype stage, it is said that Google has shelved plans to release Android 5.0 at Google I/0 2013. Instead, Google could announce Android 4.3 Jelly Bean at the upcoming developers' conference, slated to be held next month.

Google bans self-updating Android apps, possibly including Facebook’s

Facebook end run around Google Play store followed by change in Google policy.

About six weeks ago, users of Facebook's Android application noticed that they were being asked to install a new version—without going to the Google Play app store.
Android is far more permissive than iOS regarding the installation of third-party applications, even allowing installation from third-party sources if the user explicitly allows it. However, it's unusual for applications delivered through the official Google store to receive updates outside of the store's updating mechanism.
Google has now changed the Google Play store polices in an apparent attempt to avoid Facebook-like end runs around store-delivered updates. Under the "Dangerous Products" section of the Google Play developer policies, Google now states that "[a]n app downloaded from Google Play may not modify, replace or update its own APK binary code using any method other than Google Play's update mechanism." A Droid-Life article says the language update occurred Thursday. APK (standing for application package file) is the file format used to install applications on Android.

Must-have Android app, AirDroid, adds remote access and more in AirDroid 2

AirDroid 2

SUMMARY:
My pick for a must-have Android app in 2013 was AirDroid, but now I have to update that selection. It was just displaced with AirDroid 2 which adds remote phone access over 3G/4G and more features
If you’ve been using AirDroid, which I deemed an app every Android owner should try in 2013, you already know the software is great. With it, you can manage your phone, move files to or from it, change ringtones and more right from the browser of a computer on the same Wi-Fi network. AirDroid 2 is now available in Google Play and it gets even better with more features such as the ability to access your Android smartphone over a mobile broadband network.

The fastest Android gaming tablets

Which Android tablets provide the smoothest gaming experience? CNET Labs delves deep to find out.
The development of new chips that deliver zippier performance, smoother gaming, faster Web surfing, and longer-lasting battery life will soon make their way into new Android tablets. While chips themselves and the high-end tablets that will house them, have yet to be released, we have it on good authority that they'll deliver on their promise.
Gaming is an increasingly popular way tablet owners are spending time with their devices and chip makers are paying attention. While the gaming experience on Android tablets has improved by leaps and bounds in just the last year, it's bound to only get faster, smoother, and prettier (and hopefully even more fun).

Paranoid Android team bringing multi-window mode to Android

Paranoid Android is a custom version of Android that’s been pushing the boundaries of the platform for a while. The developers were among the first to let users decide on a per-app basis whether to use the tablet or smartphone version of various apps. And Paranoid Android’s PIE menu reinvents the Android button and notification scheme.
Now the team is working to change the way Android handles multitasking, by adding support for apps that don’t run in full-screen, and which can be viewed on top of your currently running apps.

According to Intel CEO Paul Otellini, notebooks are soon going to be hitting the $200 mark. The catch? They’ll be running Android instead of Windows. Dadi Perlmutter, executive VP and chief product officer for Intel, says notebooks at the bottom end of the notebook pricing spectrum will run Android on the Intel Atom mobile processor.
According to Perlmutter, ”We have a good technology that enables a very cost-effective price point.” As far as the price of Windows 8 laptops, he says that “depends on how Microsoft prices Windows 8. It may be a slightly higher price point.”
